Celebrity 'giant' James Earl Jones received tributes

George Lucas, the man of Star Wars, has led the tributes after "incredible actor" James Earl Jones, who played Darth Vader, passed away at the age of 93.
In a statement, Lucas referred to Jones as "a most unique voice both in art and spirit".
"For nearly half a century he was Darth Vader, but the secret to it all is he was a beautiful human being," the filmmaker added.

"He gave depth, sincerity and meaning to all his roles, amongst the most important being a devoted husband to the late Ceci and dad to Flynn. "Fans and pals alike will miss James a lot.

In addition to providing the distinctively deep voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars, Jones acted in many other films, including Field of Dreams, Coming to America, Conan the Barbarian, and The Lion King.
The actor who portrayed Darth Vader's son Luke Skywalker posted the words "RIP Dad" on X along with an emoticon of a shattered heart.
Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, stated, "James Earl Jones is one of the most versatile and talented actors of our time, with an iconic body of work across film, stage, and television."
"The menacing baritone he brought to Darth Vader will forever be beloved by fans and regarded as one of the great villainous performances in cinema. "His friendly demeanour off-screen and his commanding presence on film will be sorely missed." 

Jones's vocal work as Mufasa in the cherished Disney picture The Lion King won him even more admiration from millions of people.
Disney chief executive Bob Iger said: "From the gentle wisdom of Mufasa to the menacing threat of Darth Vader, James Earl Jones gave voice to some of the greatest characters in cinema history."

He added: "The stories he brought to life with a uniquely commanding presence and a true richness of spirit have left an indelible mark on generations of audiences."

Actor Matthew Broderick, who plays Simba in The Lion King, told People magazine, "I feel extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to collaborate with James Earl Jones." To have had him play my father, my king! and to get some insight into his personality."

Star Trek actor George Takei wrote on X:

"A splendid soul and limitless, singular voice has departed from us."Now that he has passed away, James Earl Jones has returned to the great beyond.
"We are all the lesser for his loss, and we collectively mourn his passing and honour his great body of work."

On X, LeVar Burton, the actor from Star Trek, remarked, 

"There will never be another of his particular combinations of graces." 

Kevin Costner, Jones' co-star in Field of Dreams, commented on Instagram, saying, "That booming voice." That quiet force. The warmth enveloping him. I will simply thank Field of Dreams for being a part of his legacy, as there is so much to say about it."

Octavia Spencer, the Oscar-winning actress, wrote on Instagram that "legendary doesn't even begin to describe his iconic roles and impact on cinema forever" and that "Jones's voice and talent will be remembered always."

Respect for X was also shown by US actor Colman Domingo, who wrote, "I am so grateful to James Earl Jones for everything." Your shoulders are behind us. Go now and unwind. You gave it everything you had for us."

The wife of co-director of The Lion King Rob Minkoff, Crystal Minkoff, shared a picture of Jones on Instagram with the caption, "Rest in Power, Mr. Jones," holding a statue of Mufasa. When you agreed to play Mufasa, you realised the dream of a budding animator.

"I appreciate everything you've done for Rob. Your legacy will endure."

"Grace, authority, and decorum"

Also, Jones narrated CNN's "This is CNN" tagline for the network on US television.

A statement from CNN on X read, "We are deeply saddened to hear of James's passing."Jim was the face of CNN and our brand for many years. He spoke with effortless grace, authority, and propriety.

James' amazing voice is only one of the many things the world will miss about him. For his family, we are in prayer."
Jones overcame a stammer that he had during his teenage years in order to establish his distinctive acting style and voice.

As CEO of the NGO Stamma, Jane Powell described the amazing performer to the BBC as "By all accounts, a lovely man." Powell also has a wonderful voice. And someone who had trouble controlling his speech, speaking correctly, and stammered all of his life."James talked about how difficult it was to sound fluent, the support he got from speech and language pathologists, and the several stutter management techniques he mastered. He had a wonderful voice."

The Empire State Building shared a photo from earlier this year showing the famous New York landmark illuminated with a menacing Darth Vader picture along with the words, "Rest in Peace, Lord Vader."

On her Instagram stories, actress Ava DuVernay wrote: "We appreciate you showcasing our self. Our complex identities, our respectable selves, our suffering, our smiles."Excellent work. A wonderfully given present. Blessings on your continued travels.

Rest in power to one of our giants Danielle Brooks, star of Colour Purple, continued. May your voice live on in our hearts forever!

James Earl Jones will never die according to director Paul Feig, since "his talent, work, and influence will be with us always.
